    It starts with a conversation

    No test and no grade. The tutor asks a handful of questions and works out where this student really is, which is often not where the syllabus says they should be.

    A lesson built for that answer

    The lesson opens at the level the diagnostic found, with an objective the student can see and a clear sense of how far through they are.

    Shown, not just told

    When a sentence will not do it, the tutor draws. Diagrams are generated for the concept being taught, from number lines to the skeletal system.

    Practice with someone watching

    Wrong answers get a hint aimed at the actual misunderstanding rather than the correct answer handed over. Right answers get harder questions.

    Understanding gets checked

    A quiz at the end of the topic, marked by the tutor on the reasoning shown. Getting there by luck does not count as getting there.
